Home Grown Oakland with Christopher Jeffery EP 005

This weeks co-host is local talent Christopher Jeffery.  His is a former veteran, a singer and graduate of film school at University of Pacific with soon to release his project called “Colonize.”

Christopher was raised in Oakland and excelled in music arts programs.  He  attended the Y and P program at UC Berkeley that was also attended by Rafael Saadiq, Rodney Franklin., Joshua Redman, Derrick Hughes.  He talks about overcoming a rough teen patch when he was kicked out of Danville High, the passing of his mother turbulent times with father.  We discuss how being raised in Oakland; and how surviving school while black creates a positive path when there are good role models with teachers like Mr. Morris, Ms. Linda McClain and Ms.Barbara Martin who made a positive impact in his life as mentors and leaders.   He talks about overcoming a rough teen patch when he was kicked out of Danville High, his mother’s passing and turbulent times with father.

He returned to obtained his diploma and later joined the group the New Travel Voices as a musician with the talents of Maxine Jones, Brenda Vaughn,  Nikia Germaine, Michelle Jordan and others.
